Nanosciences Chairs of Excellence : new call from the Foundation in Grenoble

The Nanosciences Foundation is supporting a network of 33 laboratories in Grenoble (France) gathering about 1000 scientists across the various research institutions based in Grenoble. The Foundation's main goals are to boost a world-class Nanosciences Research within the network of laboratories by funding collaborative and multidisciplinary projects and by developing international cooperation.

 

The program Chairs of Excellence has been created to attract talented researchers to Grenoble to develop a research project in emerging fields of nanosciences in one of the network's laboratories.

 

The Chairs of Excellence are open to both junior and senior scientists, available for full time or part time position in Grenoble; the contract duration can vary from 9 months (which might be split over three years) to 3 years.

Publication of the 106th BE Norway

The Science Department of the French Embassy in Norway is proud to announce the publication of the 106th "Bulletin Electronique" Norway.

 

 

The "Bulletins Electroniques" (BE) are electronic publications of information on technological and scientific advances in the world. The BE is the result of the partnership between ADIT (Agency for the Dissemination of Technological Information) and the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, through the Science Departments of the French Embassies abroad. Today, the BE of more than 40 different countries are freely available. The first BE Norway was released in February 2000 and is now published monthly.

Nils Christian Stenseth Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur

Biolog Nils Christian Stenseth ble slått til ridder av den franske æresorden, Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, av Frankrikes ambassadør til Norge, Brigitte Collet, under en seremoni ved den Franske ambassaden den 2. desember.

Nils Christian Stenseth er professor ved Universitetet i Oslo, og spesialisert innen statistisk modellering av langsiktige økologiske data. Hans arbeid har gjort det mulig å forklare migrasjonssyklusene til arktiske bestander via ulike miljøfaktorer.

Professor Stenseth har vært medlem av Det Franske Vitenskapsakademi siden 2005 (som andre nordmann siden opprettelsen).

Han har tidligere ledet Det Norske Videnskaps-Akademi, og leder idag UiOs Senter for fremragende forskning, Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES).

Exhibition Marie Curie in the Chemistry Department of UiO

To celebrate the international year of Chemistry and the 100th anniversary of the Marie Curie's Nobel Prize of Chemistry, and in the direct continuity of the Marie Curie Day which happened on Monday, the 7th of November, 2011 (co-organized by the Science Department of the French Embassy in Norway), an exhibition about Marie Curie's life, made by the Curie Museum in Paris, is shown from Monday, the 14th of November, to Friday, the 25th of November 2011, in the hall of the Chemistry Department of the University of Oslo.
